The highly anticipated second location of acclaimed Mexican restaurant Sueño is making its debut in Dallas, bringing a unique dining experience to the city. This new venture, Sueño Cocteleria Mexicana, is a collaboration between cousins Julio Pineda and Cristian Lujano, who are originally from Mexico City but raised in Texas. The restaurant's opening marks a significant milestone in the culinary scene, as it promises to elevate Mexican cuisine and mixology in the area.
A Culinary Journey
At the heart of Sueño's culinary offerings is its in-house masa operation, which utilizes heirloom blue and yellow corn to create authentic tortillas, tetelas, and tlayudas. The menu showcases a fusion of traditional Mexican flavors with influences from French, Italian, and Japanese cuisine. Executive Chef Cristos Andrade, a native of Monterrey, has crafted a diverse menu that includes:
- Bone Marrow Pork Belly with salsa tatemada, avocado puree, and bone marrow-infused crema Oaxaqueña
- Tamarind Ponzu Sashimi Scallops with cucumber, avocado, and fried parsnip
- Sushi-Grade Ahi Tuna Tartare with serrano tomato herb vinaigrette
- Jalisco Birria Tacos with braised lamb, consommé, cheese, onion, cilantro, and lime
- Enchiladas Suizas with pulled chicken, cheese, and creamy poblano sauce
The live-fire dishes are a highlight, featuring:
- Wood-Fired Carne Asada with Rosewood Ranch New York strip and chorizo enfrijolada
- Pollo a la Plancha with pipián verde
- Fire-grilled fajitas with chicken, sirloin, pork belly, or a combination of meats
- Salmon a la Crema with white wine mushroom sauce
The Tequila Lounge Experience
One of the most exciting aspects of Sueño's new location is Alma Agave, a dedicated tequila lounge. This intimate space, designed to be a destination in itself, offers a unique experience for cocktail enthusiasts. The lounge serves cocktails inspired by different regions of Mexico, showcasing tequila, mezcal, and lesser-known Mexican spirits. The beverage program incorporates housemade ingredients, fermented elements, masa foam, and squash-based sodas, creating a truly authentic and memorable drinking experience.
Design and Ambiance
The restaurant's design, created by Mexico City-based JSa and Arlington's ch_Studio, draws inspiration from traditional Mexican haciendas. It features volcanic stone, wood, leather, handwoven textiles, and artwork by Mexican artisans. The patio, in particular, is a shaded, inviting space that reinterprets the Mexican courtyard, perfect for outdoor gatherings.
A Personal Endeavor
For Pineda and Lujano, this project is deeply personal. They aim to honor their Mexican heritage while creating a meaningful experience for the Dallas community. They emphasize the importance of celebrating Mexican culture through food, drink, and genuine hospitality, ensuring that Sueño becomes a beloved destination for locals and visitors alike.
